Frequently Asked Questions

Everything you need to know about pricing, collections, bags, and delivery rules.

What are your buying prices, and how do you pay?

We pay R0.60 per kg (R600 per tonne) for crushed glass cullet, and R0.50 per kg (R500 per tonne) for whole, uncrushed bottles and jars.

For qualifying bulk commercial supply of 40–50+ tonnes, higher rates (e.g. R0.65/kg) can be negotiated. Payouts are processed promptly upon certified scale weighing at our Mkondeni depot, or via direct bank transfer once collection loads are verified.

What is the minimum volume required for a truck collection?

Due to high diesel and road freight expenses, collection rules depend on your distance from Pietermaritzburg:

  • Depot Self-Delivery (Mkondeni, PMB): NO MINIMUM. Deliver any amount from a few bags to a full truckload.
  • Local PMB & Surrounds (< 1–2 hours drive): Flexible minimums, typically 20 metric tonnes (20 bulk bags) subject to review.
  • Long-Distance / Outside KZN (Gauteng, Mpumalanga, Eastern Cape, etc.): STRICT MINIMUM OF 34 METRIC TONNES (34x 1-tonne bags). Quantities below 34 tonnes outside KZN are commercially unviable for our trucks to collect.
Do you provide 1-tonne bulk bags (amasaka) or crushing machines (stampers)?

NO. Amabongo Solutions does not sell, supply, or loan 1-tonne bulk bags or crushing machinery. Collectors and sellers are responsible for sourcing their own heavy-duty 1-tonne woven bulk bags (jumbo bags) from local industrial packaging suppliers.

Who loads the collection truck? Do you bring a forklift?

Our collection trucks do NOT travel with forklifts. The seller must provide 3 to 4 strong workers on site to assist with manually loading the bulk bags onto the truck bed.

Do I need to wash or separate bottles by colour?

NO. You do not need to wash bottles or remove labels. Minor liquid residue and dust are 100% acceptable. We buy mixed bottles (clear, brown, green) as well as colour-sorted cullet.

What materials do you NOT accept?

We deal EXCLUSIVELY in glass bottles and jars. We strictly reject: window pane glass, car windscreens, mirrors, light bulbs, Pyrex, ceramics, tiles, pottery, cardboard, plastics, and scrap metal.

Do you handle international export sales (e.g. Angola, Mozambique)?

Amabongo Solutions operates strictly in the South African domestic market. We do not provide CIF shipping or SARS export clearing. International buyers purchasing cullet must arrange and fund their own container sea freight and customs clearance from Durban harbour (FOB/ex-works pickup).
